Roofing

Landscaping adjacent to the building should be cut back to keep debris out of the gutters and limbs from making contact with the building.

Attic Spaces

attic inspectionAttics are one of the most important and least addressed components of buildings. The attic is a buffer space between our warm/ dry interiors and the cold or hot/ damp exteriors. An improperly vented, sealed and insulated attic will result in mould growth, provide a home for pests, and prematurely cause roofing materials to wear. A yearly attic inspection is recommended as a preventative measure. This will save you money if issues are caught before they require major repairs.

Soffits

Soffits are the vented area below the edge of the roof / attic area. Over time they become blocked with fine particles such as dust and dirt. A blocked soffit restricts the fresh air flow into the attic space which can result in mould development on the under side of the roof sheathing and prematurely cause roof shingles to wear.

Gutters/ Perimeter Drainage

Both drainage components require annual inspection and cleaning. A blocked gutter will hold unnecessary water which will cause added weight stress to elbow seams and hangers. In time, seams will leak which in turn will potentially promote wood rot on adjacent fascia boards. The perimeter drain will capture gutter material run off. These materials are usually broken down organic materials and roof shingle granular materials. These dense materials will easily cause a blockage.

Siding

roof before cleaningBuilding siding keeps the water out of the exterior vertical walls. Be it vinyl, HARDI board, wood, metal, or masonry an annual inspection and cleaning is required. A breakdown in caulking around windows, doors and flashing may cause water to come in contact with the internal envelope.
